Visiting Buzz

Even as FMM’s high season approaches, the museum is already busy with motor-enthusiast group meetings. Amongst the latest visits were the Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Club on September 2, the Cape Cobra Club on September 23, Eastern Cape Car Club on October 4, the Fiat 500 Club on October 15 and the MG Car Club on October 26.

Also on October 15, FMM was honoured to be visited by wife Marie and family of the late Fred Schnetler, who was one of SA’s most popular and respected motoring journalists, author and historian. The occasion marked Marie’s 89th birthday, and the group was reunited with the 1941 Packard 110 Deluxe that was once owned by Fred, who was an enthusiastic member of the Packard Automobile Enthusiasts Club.

But it was no all one-way participation. On Wednesday 11 October the 13th Dagbreek Street Mile took place in Victoria Street, Stellenbosch as part of the Toyota US Woordfees. This year the event celebrated Danie Malan’s world record in the 1000m, achieved 50 years ago in Munich, Germany. To help commemorate the occasion, FMM sent two 1973 cars to be part of the parade, namely the Buick Riviera and MG Tourer.
