INTRODUCING THE
FORD TYRRELL 007/1
The Tyrrell racing team was founded by Ken Tyrrell in 1958 and began building its own cars in 1970, achieving quick success with Jackie Stewart winning the Drivers’ World Championship in 1971 and 1973. Stewart then retired and was replaced by South African Jody Scheckter who débuted the team’s new Derek Gardner-designed 007 chassis No.1 – the car you see here – at the 1974 Spanish GP.
In the following races, Scheckter won the Swedish and British grands prix and set the fastest race laps in France and Germany. He finished third in the Drivers’ World Championship (team-mate Patrick Depailler was ninth) and the team finished third in the Constructors’ Championship.
The car was then sold to Lexington Racing for Jody’s brother Ian to drive in the 1975 South African F1 Championship during which he won six of the nine races to win the title.
