George Old Car Show

By George, what a show! The last time FMM attended the George Motor Show, the museum had just opened, so it was time for us to visit the show again. This year the theme was Italian cars, so FMM decided to display a few of our slightly lesser known Italian models. On special display was the 1922 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 with its glorious straight-8 engine and Cowley Coach & Motor Company bodywork. The second car on our display was another Italian gem, the little Lancia Aprilia from 1947 with its company founder Vincenzo Lancia’s pillarless door design. The museum also took along the 1985 Maserati Quattroporte. These Giugiaro-designed automobiles are super rare to our shores with only 2 150 ever being produced, and a lot of people did not know about the car, confusing it with the better known Biturbo model designed by Pierangelo Andreani, Chief of Centro Stile Maserati up to 1981. The final car in the line-up was the 1968 Alfa Romeo GTV.

I must state that this event is one of South Africa’s largest classic motor shows and extremely well executed and attended by exhibitors and the public alike. For the FMM team, it was well worth the great trek to get there with the cars and connecting with public again.

Congratulations to the Southern Cape Old Car Club on a superb motor show.
