Queen’s Plate Under Starters Orders

As of the date this newsletter is issued, plans have not been finalised regarding the running of the annual L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th January 2022 due to uncertainty of what Covid restrictions will be in force at that time. Although the two-day racing festival will take place, spectator attendance and hospitality opportunities will be subject to any changes the Government may enforce.

First held in 1861, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate remains as one of the oldest and most prestigious horse races in the country as well as being one of the best horse racing experiences in the world. The Festival gets under way on Friday afternoon with an 8-race programme, while on the Saturday the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is the undisputed jewel of Saturday’s 10-race line-up, which includes one sponsored by FMM.

However, even if the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is not open to the public, fans can tune in to watch the live televised broadcast on DStv Channel 249, or live stream the event via Telly Track online, with racing commencing from 11h30 on both days.

The museum will once again have a fresh array of vehicles on display track-side, adding to the celebration of true horse power. The 2022 display comprises the 1915 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K, 1954 MG TF, 1955 BMW Isetta 250, and 1968 Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S.
