GSM DART
THE HISTORY

Attractive, Aerodynamic and African
Bob van Niekerk (mechanic), Willie Meissner and Verster de Wit (stylists) founded Glassport Motors Company in 1957, following their first prototype in 1956 in England. The first two GSM Darts, built on a farm at Bottelary near Stellenbosch, were entered for racing and in 1958 they moved to Cape Town. The GSM Dart was also built in England, and marketed as the GSM Delta. It had an attractive, aerodynamic glassfibre reinforced plastic body. A total of 115 Darts were built, the majority of which were fitted with a Ford 100E or 105E engines with a few having Climax or Peugeot motors. A hardtop version was offered with an unusual reverse-angle rear window.
